Sick baby

Well on Wednesday I went to pick Sawyer up from day care and his teacher, Mrs Sandra, told me that Sawyer just did not seem to feel good.  When we got home I checked his temperature to find him with a 102.5 fever... poor baby.  No real symptoms to pin the temp on so I gave him Tylenol and thought it might be teeth. Later that night I checked on him while he was sleeping to find him burning up with a temp of 103.5.  Oh my, that is when a little bit of panic started to creep into this mommy's heart.  So I decided to call my great friend, April, and then later the nurse on call( I hated to be one of those moms that call for no reason but April confirmed that I had pretty good reason).  We were in the office the next am at 7:30 to find out we have a viral throat infection, and ANOTHER EAR INFECTION!!!!!!!!!!! One more round of antibiotics for the little man.  We are scheduled for a follow up with the ENT in September.  I would imagine tubes are in the very near future.

Despite being a puny little boy this week, it really has not slowed him down. If I must say so myself he is sooooo cute.  He has just learned how to melt your heart and mine by blowing kisses.  Today, he was blowing kisses to complete strangers. They love it though because they would blow them right back.  What if we all walked around blowing kisses to each other would we get the same response?  Maybe we should all try it sometime and see the reaction. Sawyer has such a sweet little personality.  He waves to everyone ( he loved to flirt with the teenage girls last weekend at the Japanese restaurant), he blows the most adorable kisses you have ever seen, and loves to laugh out loud when you play peekaboo with him.  I never could have imagined how much fun we would get to have with him.

Stephen just finished his 4th semester of school... looks like he got B's in his 2 classes.  He has a short break and starts Fall Semester on Monday night.  This semester he is taking a math class at Troy/ Dothan and 2 others at Wallace.  Unfortunately the math he needed was not offered at the time he needed so he was forced to take it at Troy/ Dothan (which is a little more expensive).  With three classes this semester he will have very little time for much fun. We have to remind ourselves ( remind Stephen that is) that slow and steady wins the race,  and that anything that is worth having takes a lot of hard work and dedication.  Hopefully in a few years he will have a rewarding career to show for all his sacrifice and hard work.

For those of you curious about the "healthy eating journey" we are still doing great.  Stephen has lost 12 and I have lost 3.5 pounds.  Weigh in day is tomorrow so we shall see what the scale holds for us both.  I do have a pretty funny story about one of our bumps in the road to being healthier.  We went to Eastaboga this past weekend to visit my Mom and on the way home we both started to get a desire for something sweet.  We pulled into dairy queen for a small cup of plain vanilla ice cream because we all know that ice cream is both of our weakness. Well what do you know, that small cup of plain ice cream turned into a small NUTTER BUTTER BLIZZARD. OOPS! Well we enjoyed it and when we got home to record our caloric intake for the day we realized that that oh so sweet little treat was 620 calories!!!!!!!!!!! I mean seriously, that is half my caloric intake for the day. Lesson learned that day... know what your are eating before you eat it, and when you cave in to the calling of the sweet little nutter butter blizzard ( which was fabulous by the way) dont beat yourself up!

it is all fun and games until some one gets a bloody lip

I cant believe it... after 5 days the man looses 10 pounds, without exercising, and the woman looses 1/2 a pound.  There is something about this that is so not fair.  Anyway, I a very excited for him and I know that this is something that we can encourage each other in.

On Friday evening I was cleaning up the kitchen after dinner and all of a sudden I heard the sound of Sawyer crying... not just any cry,  but the kind of cry when you hear them cry and then they stop making a sound because they are forgetting to breath.  I knew that something painful had happened and I turned around to see Stephen picking Sawyer to comfort him from yet another fall.  The crying did not stop with a daddy hug so I turned around again and noticed blood pouring out of his mouth.  Wow I never knew a lip could bleed that much.  The bleeding quit pretty quickly and His lip soon swelled up but with a little mommy TLC the boo boo bunny ice pack he was back to his usual self.  I am sure that will be one of many bloody lips in the life of this little boy.

So Far so good...

Tomorrow is weigh in day... We both decided to weigh in on Friday.  This week we will be short a few days since we started on Sunday.  Not that we  plan to blow it the weekend, but for some reason it is a bit easier to eat healthier during the week.  We will see how we have done on our "sparky getting healthier" journey.  It sure is a lot easier to focus on eating right when your spouse is on board too.  We have really motivated each other this week.

Sawyer is getting another tooth... It seems that in the past month he has gotten 5 new teeth.  yeah for his mouth, but unfortunately with new teeth come a runny nose, a cough from the runny nose, stinky diapers, and occasionally a little bit of a fever. All those combined tend to make the little man a bit cranky.  I don't blame him... I think a tooth ache is one of the worst pains. I can only imagine how he has felt.

Despite cutting teeth, Sawyer has decided to show us just how much rhythm he has.  He loves to dance to the music of all his new toys.  It is one of the cutest things he does.  He will even raise his little arms above his head and " raise the roof"  He is growing up so fast and is learning something new everyday. We are going to wake up and we will be teaching him to drive a car...

First timer

Well well well... here I am. My first blog.
I asked Stephen, "Hey honey if you had to title our life what would you call it?  Why?"  he responded.  " So I can title the blog that I am going to start writing." I received no help from him so the best I can do on a whim is The Three S's.  That best describes us, Stephen, Shasta and Sawyer.  This might be fun,  however,  I think I enjoy reading about the lives of other people more than I like writing about mine.  It will probably take me a little while to figure out this foreign world of blogging but I think it might be fun.  I think we have a fun life, even a little hilarious at times.

First hilarious bit of Ellenburg news... Stephen started the diet I put him on.  Not really,  I did not force him too hard! We decided together that we needed to both get it together and get a bit healthier.  I am truly motivated by a great sermon series at our church called " More".  It is an eye opening series about God given desires and appetites that satan can use to control us and eventually lead to our destruction. So we are focused thanks to the website Sparkpeople.com.  you should check it out... It is a free website to help you track what you eat.
